- Have you ever wondered what effect your lifestyle has on your heart health?
- Have ever wondered what age your heart really is?
If you have answered yes to these three questions, then the Flora Heart Age Tool is for you!
As part of a broader campaign to educate the nation on heart health, Flora developed the Heart Age Tool with the world-renowned Framingham Institute in 2007.
This innovative on-line tool enables people to check out the ‘age’ of their heart.
What to do?
In two easy steps you can check the age of your heart:
Step 1) Log onto www.floraheartage.com
Step 2) Answer a series of lifestyle and health related questions
How does it work?
Based on the answers, the Heart Age Tool will make personal recommendations on how you can make positive lifestyle changes to improve your heart health.
There are many factors that impact on your heart health, be it from blood pressure to whether you are a smoker. Whilst some risk factors like family history cannot be controlled, improving your diet, exercising, not smoking and reducing stress in your life can all help to improve the health of your heart.
But did you know that by making a few simple lifestyle changes you can make a huge difference to the health of your heart?
- Moderate levels of physical activity for 30 minutes each day, such as brisk walking or jogging, can do wonders for the heart health.
- Getting involved and training for an event like the Flora Women’s Mini Marathon is a perfect way in which people can get active and take care of their hearts, whilst raising much needed money for their charity.
- You can also improve heart health by making simple changes to your diet such as the following recommendations:
- Switch from butter to margarine
- Choose low fat diary foods e.g. low fat milk, yoghurt, cheese
- Choose polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils such as vegetable, olive oils or liquid margarines for cooking
- Eat lots of fruit and vegetables
- Drink as much water as you can. One should aim to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day.
